Boulder County ranks number six in population among the 64 counties of Colorado. The county seat and the biggest municipality in the county is the city of Boulder. According to the 2010 census, the population was just under 295,000 and the county has an area of around 750 miles. Boulder County is one of the original 17 counties created in Colorado on November 1, 1861. The name of both the county and the city comes from the many boulders that can be found in the vicinity.
