I'm constantly learning. I'm like a human info vacuum. When I first began marketing on the internet, I studied every tactic, technique and trick. I studied what the industry leading marketers out there were doing and, like 97% of the other people out there, I learned that I didn't know enough. Ultimately, I realized I was failing not because I didn't know what to do... I was failing because I didn't understand the Slight Edge.

What is the slight edge all about?
And WHY is it important to your success as an internet marketer? It's significant because it is the single biggest factor in whether you will win or lose; if you will be sad or happy; if you will be healthy or sickly. The Slight Edge is the most simple of principles and is the critical success ingredient that is obscured in plain site of every struggling internet marketer. Jeff Olson actually authored a book about this subject and it's a definite read if you have any desire to be better. Succintly put, the slight edge can be defined as the simple disciplines repeated everyday turning into a mountain of success over time OR the slight edge can be defined as daily small errors in judgment turning into a great big pile of failure over time. Whether you are aware of it or not, the slight edge is always at work for us or against us.

Why doesn't everyone use the slight edge positively?
Though using the slight edge is easy to do, it is just as easy NOT to do. Most of us need to be avoiding a dramatic immediate consequence to get us do to something that isn't pleasurable. For instance, what if you had zero doubt in your mind that if you took a sip of a Slurpee, the resultant brain freeze combined with sugary ice would result in an instant brain embolism and cause your pancreas to fail. I think it would be very easy not to ever drink a Slurpee again. But in reality, one Slurpee is not going to cause death or even give you diabetes, is it? Luckily I abhor Slurpees but I do adore pizza! I'd venture to say that most of you love pizza as well. Now, if you consume an entire deep dish extra cheese pan pizza alone today, you're not likely to have a suffer cardiac arrest today, so why not? I mean... tomorrow you could choose to eat a salad, right? But... keep making that pizza choosing that yummy pizza over and over for a decade. How does that future look? Weighty, right? If you don't work on marketing today, will your corporation crumble? Doubtful. But... that error in judgment practiced over time will predictably lead to failure. Conversely, if you were to eat a salad today would you instantly become shredded and find you're fighting for first place in the Tour de France with Lance Armstrong? Er... no. Nor would doing your prospecting this minute mean that you'd be able to quit working forever at midnight tonight. What the slight edge means is that every one of your actions has a result and each of those results adds up to a bigger result in the future. You have to understand the consequences of your actions well enough that you can see the bigger results you will harvest in the future from the seeds you are planting today; Make no mistake... you're planting seeds EVERYDAY! There are no benign seeds, every one counts. "Well thanks, Jesse. Does that mean I not allowed to eat pizza?" Sure you can scarf an occasional pizza, though I would never recommend eating a large deep dish pizza by yourself at one time. We all know moderation is critical. Nonetheless, EVERYTHING COUNTS. I'm sure you've heard that success is a journey and not a destination. Remember in high school when you were in geometry class and you did that little spectrum line? It was like a ray that went out in bith directions for infinity. What if there were a mid-point in the infinite line. Well, imagine that most people live their life in the middle or below that midpoint. Every time they take a step it moves them further up or or down the line. Any action, including inaction, is a step. For instance - write an article... that's a forward step. Read a book... another forward step. Skip marketing today to see Saw 63... that's a step back (maybe more than one). Begin the habit of constantly stepping forward and you will achieve and even exceed your goals in record time.

The Slight Edge vs Massive Action
We know how important it is to take immediate and massive action to achieve success with our chosen goals. But what kind of massive action? When I was going to college, I was the king of putting things off. I could've written a 300 page book on procrastination, though I doubt I would've ever started it. I was able to get my work done however by waiting until 2 AM on the morning of the due date and working until sunrise. That was massive action... just put off a bit. After I turned the composition in and went to sleep, I'd wake up and review my paper. Of course, there would be mistakes; stuff The overall quality was poor and there was too little information for it to feel truly complete. Had I started the paper three weeks prior when it was assigned and done some each day, how would my paper have read then? I'm going to say better. True massive action is not just a crap load of work for a short time; it is steady effort all the time. When Mother Nature wants to produce a canyon, does she dump 380 billion tons of water or ice on the ground in one go or does she move water or glacial ice through the area for centuries, relentlessly digging out the ground? No way to argue with that...

So get to work and make everyday count.
