If you’re an online marketer, driving traffic to your website is critical to your success. You can have the greatest opportunity or product in the industry, but if you don't have a traffic, no one will ever know about it. Without traffic, you won’t get any leads. And, without leads, your business will not grow, or worse yet, you may even go out of business.
There's hundreds of ways that you can get traffic to your site. There are ways that will cost you money and ways that are completely free. You may be asking, “Which way is better?” Well, they both have their advantages and disadvantage. For example, paid traffic, like PPC, will give you pretty fast results. It can also drive quality traffic to your site since the people looking at your ads are on the search engines typing in the keywords you want to show up for. The problem is it takes a pretty decent advertising budget to make PPC work and that’s a luxury that most people don’t have in this economy. Also, once you stop running your PPC campaign, the traffic stops and so do the leads. On the other hand, besides free traffic being free, once you post content online, it will stay there for a long time, potentially driving traffic to your site for years without any more effort from you. The challenge is it takes a little while until you get a good flow of traffic to your site.
As you can see, they are both good and applicable for different reasons. However, for the sake of this article, and since there are more people on a budget nowadays than there are people who have money to spend on advertising, I will briefly give you a simple, but effective, way you can drive traffic to your website when you have little to no budget.
Article marketing can get you a lot of free, quality traffic.Since Google likes articles, it's a great way to get your site ranked by the search engines. It’s a fact that Google loves original, relevant and current content. Article marketing meets all those criteria, and is also a fantastic way to brand yourself and share value with people.
Make sure you do some keyword research before you start writing your article. You want keywords that are popular enough so that you get a good amount of traffic, but not too popular that you’re decreasing your chances of getting a high ranking because too many people are competing for that keyword. There's a couple of ways to do keyword research, but an easy way is to find keywords that have over 2,000 searches but less than 10,000 pages returned on Google. In addition, make sure your keyword is on your title and in the body of your article. Make sure you use related terms, so that Google sees that your content is relevant and not just a bunch of mumbo jumbo with your keyword placed all over it. If you can, try to end your article with a sentence containing your keyword.
Once you’ve written your article, now it’s time to submit it to article directories. There are hundreds of article directories on the internet, and you should try to submit to as many as you can. If there was one article directory that you should definitely submit to, it should be ezinearticles.com, which is a very popular website.
One last note, when you put your signature together at the bottom of your article, use your keyword as an anchor text and have it link back to your website. This creates a way for someone to click to your site and it also creates a backlink to your site which will increase your rankings.
These are some article marketing basics. If you do have some money in your budget, you can hire someone to write articles for you. You can also use software to spin and sbmit your article for you. But even if you had no budget whatsoever, I would definitely recommend you include article marketing in your marketing routine.
