The commercial says it is the toughest workout ever put on video. I'm talking about the Insanity workout program by Beachbody. I have tried workouts like Tae Bo and P90X, and I can attest, Insanity is as hard as it looks and the commercial says it is. I put together the following review to give my honest option to anyone thinking about giving this program a try.

The Insanity workout is a 60 day, extreme cardio conditioning program and it will push you to the max, and will get you in the best shape of your life. Insanity is a calorie burn fest, but it is not for everyone, not even close. If you are at a novice fitness level or then I would not recommend it to you. It is great for great for losing weight but it may be too tough for some people and they might fare better with something a little less intense. The program is cardio based and it involves a lot of explosive type jumping and pressing exercises. Since the program is mostly comprised of bodyweight exercises, it does not require you to buy any fitness equipment. This obviously has a huge cost advantage, but for those looking to pack on serious muscle mass, they should probably look elsewhere.

Insanity is split into two separate 30 days phases. Each phase has four weeks of intense workouts and one, slightly less intense recovery week. On average the workouts last about 35-40 minutes for the first phase and 55-60 minutes for the second phase.

Similar to all of Beachbody's programs, the nutrition plan is an essential part to having success with the program. The nutrition plan requires that you give yourself the proper amount of energy to fuel yourself through workouts. The nature of interval type routines like Insanity will have you burning calories like a furnace. The nutrition plan calls for frequent meals, about every three hours, each at about 300 to 400 calories. The guide also presents daily meal plan and recipes to follow if you would like. The plan also provides you with a wide variety of delicious and nutritious recipes.

Another key to the success many people have with Beachbody programs like Insanity is their online community and support system. I have never seen such a strong, encouraging community and the online forums are filled with expert advice, and people to keep you accountable to your results and who also offer constant support, motivation, and guidance.

This is the first Shaun T. program I have tried and after watching these video you will be amazed at what great shape he is in. Making it through the workouts is extremely tough. I remember during the warm up section, questioning if I would make it all the way through, plus it was not encouraging seeing the cast frequently taking breaks. The fact that Shaun actually coaches and instructs while doing the workouts is a testament to the fantastic shape he is in. The good news is as you progress through the program it does get easier and you will feel an elevated sense of accomplishment.
