Over the last 12 years of my career, I’ve made it a point to notice and study people and their behaviors. I have learned from people that were mega-successful in the industry. And, I have also learned from people that have failed in this industry.In all honesty, I have to admit that there were reps that I knew would quit because of their lack of coachability and/or their laziness.But, what always baffled me were the individuals who quit who were actually very good. They were good in front of the room, they were good on the phone, they gave killer presentations and attended all the major events the company held. And yet, they still ended up quitting. Now, don’t get me wrong, as a professional, I know that there are a percentage of people that are going to quit, and I accept that. Nevertheless, it always stuck in the back of my mind why these “good reps” failed to build their businesses.
Knowing what I know now, and looking back , it's amazing that they all had one thing in common: They didn't have a high quality and responsive list. Now, they all had a list of friends, family and casual contacts that they called to pitch their products. But they weren’t trying to build real relationships with the people on their list. Network marketing requires relationships that are built and developed over time. They were so busy trying to run through, present and sponsor their contacts that the “relationship” just wasn’t there.
There is a very important lesson there if you look closely: You must build a huge list of highly responsive people. However, they will only become resposive if you take the time to build, nurture and develop relationships with the people on your list. Eventually, the 3rd part of the equation is to market to your list, but that part comes after you build your list and develop relationships with your list.
So what to the top producers do to dominate their companies and sponsor people with ease?
1. They build a big list
2. They develop a relationship with their list
3. They market to their list
So, what does that tell you that you must do to get in a position to dominate your company?
You have to learn how to build your list in the fastest way possible. Make a commitment to stay laser focused on getting to a point where you are generating at least 25 leads a day, and I promise you your life will start to change.
