If you want to increase your hunting success, using scopes on your rifle, known as red dot scopes, will increase the accuracy of your shot. When your prey is too far away for normal eyesight, there is no reason to miss an opportunity, if you consider the added advantage that rifle scopes can give you. Most hunters that aren't offered this advantage will tell you they would have had better luck, if they had some kind of magnification assistance, when an animal walked out of shooting range.

The strength of the red dot scopes you use can also determine your ability to focus, with a clear outline of your target. The power of magnification will be denoted in a range with an "X" denoting how many times larger your target is magnified over normal eyesight. For example, a 3X-9Xscope will increase the target size by three times at the lowest (3X) setting and by nine times at the highest (9X) setting.

To make more accurate shots, you just have to consider the difference in a deer that is 150 yards away from you. It might only appear 2 inches tall, without any kind of scope, but with a 5X magnification, it will appear five times larger, or 10 inches. This might make a difference in whether you can make a shot or not. To get a sharper image, you can adjust the focus settings. This will increase your accuracy and help you increase your hunting success rate.

But using a rifle scope is about much more than just being more accurate. Stealth is a benefit as well. Because you can take a shot from as far away as 300 yards or more, your target may never know you exist. This means that you can take your time, line up the shot, steady yourself and squeeze that trigger ever so gently.

The lenses of hunting scopes have a crosshair to help you find the spot. Sort of like "X" marks the spot, in a way. That crosshair is called a reticle and every scope has one. Some reticles have dots or marks along them called mil dots. Each mil dot measures distance and can be used to allow for variables like wind, bullet drop or elevation. Usually, each mil dot represents a half inch at 100 yards.

So, as you can see, hunting optics can help you be a better shooter in many ways. They can also affect your hunting success rate. Hunting scopes can be the difference between a successful hunt and an empty freezer this winter. If you are a competitive target shooter, a scope can mean more prize purses for you or your time.

Red dot scopes should be considered an important piece of shooting equipment because you will increase your chances of making shots you wouldn't be able to, otherwise. In addition, most hunters consider accessories such as a quality strap, a gun case or the proper ammunition an important part of their arsenal.
