Relaxing techniques for dogs

If you love dogs, then you know that they want to be massaged and cuddled always. Simple belly rubs and head pats will make your dog ecstatic and happy. But sometimes, canines are stressed and they need more than just head pats and belly rubbing.

LEARN DOG MASSAGE to relieve your dog from stress and nervousness. Try these techniques to calm your dog's senses and pain.

LEARN DOG MASSAGE by starting to analyze a bit of dog anatomy. This is to determine the physical state of your dog. Massage your dog when they are calm. Find a peaceful comfortable place to do the massage. If you are afraid to do this, better ask the advice of your veterinarian or a trained massage therapist.

Put a comfortable rug or cloth on your lap or on the floor, depending on the size of your dog and comfort level, and sit your dog on it. You can do the massage while your dog is standing or lying down. If your dog is quite active, do not force your dog. Find the right timing to massage your dog; it is possible to do this when your dog is at rest.

DO A PASSIVE MASSAGE. Place your hands on top of the painful body part of the dog, do this for about 30 seconds to calm your pet. It is also a technique to warm your dog's body. Slow and soft strokes will relax your pet dog. Stroke particular areas or spots to relax the canine, after the dog is at rest, gently scratch the belly, ears chin and cheeks.

STRETCHING is a method I use to help my dog warm up their joints and muscles properly. This also help the blood circulation and flexibility to the joints and muscles. Stretching is especially effective if your dog had undergone a hip or joint operation. This will help them in the recovery process.
Gently hold your dog's paws and rotate it like cycling motion, starting from the shoulder joint, knee joint, followed by ankle joints. Be gentle, the first few times might not be successful due to pain, stiffness, or the dog's own resistance and anticipation of pain. Don't push the issue. If you can't do it, stop and do it another time when they are more relaxed and open. Or you might end up hurting your dog instead.

With constant stretching, the dog's muscles and joints will become more flexible and strong.

Another popular technique in dog massage is KNEADING. Kneading is deep massaging the dog's muscles. Deep kneading is used to get rid of toxins and muscle spasms. Superficial or surface kneading is to improve your dogs' blood circulation by skin pinching or rolling.
