Sciatica And Exercises didn't seem to make a lot of sense to me in the beginning.. But in reality, while bed rest is good for you at the beginning of a sciatica flare up, it will probably worsen your condition if going on too long (more than a day or two). It is best to get back to your regular routine as soon as you can (of course avoiding what got you here in the first place).

Once your worst pain has simmered down you should seriously consider different types of treatments for your sciatica and exercises can be of great help, depending on what caused your sciatica pain. What may do one condition a world of good may seriously aggravate a different condition. When you are getting ready to treat the symptoms of your sciatica, and exercises are great for that, take one step first: You always need to consult a back specialist before setting out on your new exercise routine, to see when and with what frequency you should start exercising and which exercises would actually be good for you.

Now that I've said that, I'd like to take a closer look at a certain kind of sciatica and exercises that will most likely be on of the most beneficial treatments for your sciatica: warm water exercises. Though during an acute injury cold needs to be applied rather than warmth, once the healing process has started warm water is very beneficial in multiple ways.

Soaking in warm water will help relax you, it also increases blood flow and will help to soften up tightened muscles. Warm water will help to speed up your healing process. It'll augment your range of movement, since warm water makes tight muscles more pliable. You might want to take a warm bath before beginning the treatment of your sciatica and exercises (don't overdo it, since at some point your body temperature will rise too high).

Now that you are very relaxed you could do some water exercises, which are much easier to do than normal kinds of treatments for sciatica and exercises since being suspended in water takes most of the weight off your spine, disks, joints, ligaments and muscles; it also lowers the pain associated with some of the exercises, especially in the beginning, when there is still some stiffness, and the fear of possible pain, which in itself can make you tense up.

Water density will make your muscles work harder than usual, but will take weight and pressure off the rest of your body. Just marching or walking in the water can be a good start to reduce muscle spasms and pain.

Water exercises altogether and warm water treatment of sciatica and exercises in particular are a great starting point for exercises in general to treat your sciatica or other kinds of back pain. Warm water exercises are some of the most beneficial treatments for sciatica and exercises since you get both the reduction of inflammation due to increased circulation and the strengthening of the muscles that you will need to keep your back and sciatica nerve in good health.

After water exercises you will find a wide array of regimens for sciatica and exercises available to you, that you can work towards bit by bit, but before you start to exercise altogether (now that you have talked to your back specialist and learned which exercises you can do), always start up with warming up for at least 5 minutes. That could be a short walk, or even walking in place. Even using an exercise bike will do the job.

In the beginning you should probably only do gentle stretching exercises for your back and then bit by bit grow into back and abdominal exercises to build strength. It would probably also be a good idea to add in some low impact aerobic exercises, like swimming. With a balanced array of all of these exercises you will work many different muscle groups, which will then help you to prevent future flare ups of sciatica.

So in short: Sciatica and exercises can't be kept apart if your goal is pain relief and strengthening in the long run. Always consult a back specialist before starting exercises or self-treat your symptoms and causes, so you know for sure what you can, should and shouldn't do.
Author Resource:- In the US alone 1 Million workdays are being missed every year with lower back pain and related symptoms being the culprit. Back problems will become an issue at some point in their lives for 70 - 90 % of the population. When you're finally done being part of the above statistics and are ready to lose your sciatica and exercises are going to be part of that, go to sciatica and exercises, to find fast, safe and effective help.
