SATA (Serial Advance Technology Attachment) is the newest hard drive technology to enter the computer industry. It is responsible for offering quicker and more effective hard drive system as against the traditional PATA (Parallel Advance Technology Attachment). SATA works on thinner and longer wires with small 7-pin connectors, which gives more airy space choices for the hard drive. It also consumes lesser energy than PATA. Best part is all SATA drives have far higher transfer limit than even the fastest PATA hard drives. With the rise in demand for SATA drives, SATA adapters were invented to solve the compatibility problems that arose between old computers and SATA equipments.

How to do Windows installation on SATA hard disk:

· Unplug your computer from the power slot prior to connecting your SATA to your computer.
· Climb your SATA drive on your computer’s motherboard.
· Insert the data cable into your SATA drive. Tighten the connection of the data cable and then fix your power cable.
· After installing your SATA disk, examine your floppy drive. It is essential to have a floppy drive in order to execute your SATA driver through a floppy disc.
· Switch on your computer and insert the CD of your operating system in the CD-ROM.
· Enter the BIOS and enable Floppy Seek, so your system is programmed to run your floppy disk. Save the modifications made to the BIOS by pressing the F10 key on your keyboard and exit.
· Get a blank floppy drive since it can cause obstruction in installation of operating system. Insert your floppy disc when the screen becomes black with Setup checking your Computer’s Hardware Configuration.
· Observe that the screen is blue when the operating system installation is on and underneath it are some details regarding installation options. Press F6 to install a 3rd party SCSI or RAID driver. Press the F6 button multiple times to ensure it does not ignore the SATA driver, while installing various hardware drivers. *Note: if you skip F6 option, the installation of your operating system will ultimately halt and tell you about the absent drives. You must restart your computer to see F6 again.
· Number of messages will flash on the screen including installation screen of the SATA drive’s driver.
· Once all the required drivers are installed, the normal installation process of the operating system will recommence till it is over.

New SATA drive on existing Windows system

This kind of SATA drive installation needs fewer processes and is simpler to apply. Installed Windows operating system actually includes the SATA driver needed for its attachment. Windows will involuntarily fix the connected SATA drive as its secondary master as per storage hierarchy.
· Switch off your computer and unplug the connection from the power slot.
· Fix the SATA drive. Lock data and power cable connection.
· Begin computer to recharge your new SATA drive.

You can begin regulating your freshly installed SATA drive just like a normal computer drive.
