And if you're at all like me you would want to know as much about the consumables needed for the functioning of a piece of equipment just as much as the machinery itself. The consumables in the end are the items that you will be buying on a regular basis, so you should know what you are dealing with. Outlined in this article I will be providing you with the fundamentals of what toner is and the way to insert a toner cartridge into your laser printer or photocopier.
What is toner?
Toner is the substance which makes it practical for you to see the words and images printed onto paper. Essentially it is a carbon powder that is mixed with another substance called polymer. Those two materials are mixed in a melting process and then fused onto the paper. There are numerous types of mixtures of toner and polymer that may be used, with regards to the formulas produced by the manufacturer.
Toner can either be black, used for printing text in black or black and white images, or they can be a combination of 4 colours (cyan, yellow, magenta and black), to make coloured text and images.
Toner is enclosed in a toner cartridge. Toner cartridges are made from plastic they have tiny openings that enables for the ink to come through. This cartridge is then installed in the laser printers or the photocopiers. The best way to replace a toner cartridge Changing a toner cartridge is a simple procedure. Although never force the toner cartridge into place.
o Open the front part of the printer more often called the hatch. o Remove the used toner cartridge by unclipping it from the rail casing o Take the new toner cartridge from the product packaging and shake it a bit from side to side o Then dispose of foil strip (the protection which prevents the toner from leaking) o Place the fresh cartridge just like you took the previous one out. o When it's fitted in properly, close the hatch.
The way to store your unused toner cartridges
Depending on if you are using your laser printer on a regular basis or not, you might need to take out your toner cartridge and store it. The main reason for this is that if you don't use your printer on a regular basis, the toner if left in your printer will dry out.
Remove toner cartridge from printer as before and put inside of a re-sealable plastic packet. Prior to sealing you can put a small piece of wet sponge inside the packaging and close the seal. Store this sealed cartridge in a place that is cool, avoid direct sunlight or other forms of heat.
By doing this you'll make sure you get the maximum use out of your toner cartridge. If however you use your printer every week then this is not needed.
