On August 27th, 2011 wedding vendors, guests and bridal parties had a very interesting set of challenges to overcome in and around the Breckenridge area in Colorado. The massive USA Pro Cycling Challenge bike race was held throughout Summit County and brought with it tens of thousands of fans as well as several major road closures. Highway 9 and a few exits on I-70, a major mountain interstate, were closed forcing detours that were quite time consuming. Party goers, vendors, brides and grooms who are coming from Boulder and Denver had to pay special attention to the local road conditions and plan on leaving several hours early. This added time constraint put onto wedding businesses will no doubt have a snowball effect if all parties involved do not work together and plan accordingly. People traveling around the Breckenridge area needed to pay special attention to the crowded streets and take extra precautions as parking and loading were difficult. This situation is a testament to the fact that when you are planning a wedding you need to be prepared for any situation.
Oftentimes things happen on the day of your wedding that are out of the spectrum of control. Foreseeing these events is the only way to prepare yourself, with the exception of accepting the fact that you need to be flexible. For example, most brides hope and pray that it doesn't rain on their wedding day but if you are planning an outdoor event and do not rent a tent you need to be prepared to get a little wet. Obviously renting a tent would be a great way to offset this problem and provide a solution to a potential party disaster. Furthermore if you are planning to have your wedding ceremony on top of a mountain and it rains the night before creating a muddy disgusting mess, you may need to be flexible and either change the ceremony location or be prepared to wear your galoshes!
It is for totally plausible reasons that staying on top of current events, planning according to things like weather patterns, and being aware of construction is highly recommended. Additionally it is important to communicate this kind of information with your guests and make sure they are prepared for what's to come.
Regardless of the challenging or disastrous situation, the most important thing is for the bride and groom to remember the reason they were brought together in the first place and that no matter if it's one or ten small things, nothing can ruin a day meant to celebrate love. So if you want to save yourself some grief while planning a wedding; be smart, think ahead, plan according, and be flexible!
