There are a number of ways to correct imperfections within your vision. You can get glasses or contact lenses or you can have an eye laser operation. Many of these tactics have their advantages and disadvantages. The issue that you are trying to correct as well as your budget will determine what path you take. Let's have a look at the actual laser procedure though.

The very first thing you need to know about an eye laser operation is that it is expensive. Maintaining and buying the gear required for an eye laser operation isn't cheap and the surgeon will often have to pay rent on the practice office buildings along with the salaries of the employees that they must need to make a success of the practice. This is a large amount of expenses to pay for and they need to recover those costs through charging high costs for doing the actual surgical treatment. It's also wise to realize that not all medical aids will cover an eye laser operation unless of course the actual correction is actually severe enough to warrant it. You need to almost be blind to have your eye laser operation paid by most medical aids.

The next thing to note is that eye laser operations are a little invasive. The actual surgical treatment involves cutting a slit in the lens of the eye as well as raising a flap of lens to give the actual laser access to the underlying parts of the eye. This is then cut to fix whatever problem needs to be corrected. This means that your eye is opened up to the chance of an infection because the surgeon can't put stitches inside your eye to keep the wound closed. Instead you need to rely on the surface tension in the water inside your eye to keep things closed.

Additionally, you will be awake when the surgery is completed. It is not possible t do an eye laser operation when you are asleep because the eye has a tendency to roll back into the socket when you're unconscious. It may be quite disconcerting to smell the results of the laser cutting your eye lens and a few people do not like it at all, even though they won't really feel a thing due to the local anaesthetic that is applied to the eye.

Once you have considered all of these things, you need to consider one more thing. Eye laser operations are really successful. It may seem like it is really frightening and risky, but the procedures that the surgeons have in position causes it to be one of the safest surgical procedures that there is. Things rarely go wrong and the healing period isn't very long in any way. In fact you will be able to continue almost as normal on the same day as your surgical treatment. You may be restricted with regards to driving, but most other things are going to be just fine.

All in all, an eye laser operation is a great way to permanently correct some kind of fault within your eye instead of needing to put on glasses or contact lenses.
