I am currently in the process of refurbishing my home, which I have thoroughly enjoyed and I like to think I am a kind of expert when it comes to picking out the right flooring.

Flooring can be a necessary characteristic of any room and could even be regarded as a focal point, and so should not be ignored and abandoned, it can make your home look and feel complete.

During my time renovating and decorating my home I have found out alot about the different types of flooring. A useful piece of advice I always give is to always make the most of flooring samples before you buy.

Throughout my house I have used wooden flooring, especially in the bedrooms and dining room, as it gives my home a refined feel regardless of the colour scheme of the room. A room could be modern and minimalistic, or rustic and retro, but will still benefit from the added element of a wooden floor. Simply because it is so adaptable.

Wooden flooring is available in a variety of styles and colours. Hardwood flooring like this is very easy to maintain and if you have young children or pets it makes the responsibility of cleaning up after them, so much easier. However there are some rooms of the house where wooden flooring is just not suitable. These rooms are especially bathrooms and kitchens as water can have a disastrous effect on wooden flooring.

For rooms like this, its is best to use a material like tiles or laminate. Both are extremely durable and can cope with drips, stains and even flooding. Carpets are not practical in these rooms either, for the same reason as hardwood flooring, they can easily be damaged when exposed to the elements. Carpets are more suitable in bedrooms and living rooms, as they add to the comfort and warmth.

In my bathroom I have a laminate floor, however it does deceivingly look like a wooden floor Many laminates these days are designed to trick the eye to thinking the floor is compiled of wood or tiles, but is in fact a photographic image transferred onto a hard wearing board, they are also less likely to suffer from scratches than wooden floors. Laminate flooring is a less expensive and more effective way of having a authentic looking wooden floor in any room of your house.

In spite of laminate flooring being synthetic it looks and appears very realistic. I used a Flooring Dallas company not only for my bathroom, by in my kitchen as well. You can use various styles and colour of laminate to add to the overall furnishing of that particular room. Tiling can be used as flooring of kitchens and bathrooms however tiles are much more costly.

After a few hours searching I finally came across a flooring I liked it was dark brown pine hardwood flooring. To me it looked like a flooring you would imagine in an old house, discovered underneath an old moth-eaten carpet. The pine was dark brown with an aged feel. I thought it was ideal for my bedroom. The sales rep told me this was one of the more popular styles with many customers using it in their bedrooms and living rooms.

I also mentioned that I have a dog and apparently a wooden floor would make my life a lot easier, as it is easier to maintain. Stains can be cleaned up more effectively and dust can be swept up with the occasional dog hair. The people at the showroom advised me to keep my dogs nails short to prevent scratches on my new flooring. I even got to take a sample home and after days of thinking I concluded it was time to get pine wooden flooring in my bedroom.

From traditional wood like Beech and Oak all the way to professionally lacquered wood and bamboo, all of which look great and can add a twist to any room. Whilst I was there I also had a sneaky peak at the tiling and laminate flooring and I think I have already found the perfect floor for my kitchen!!

Not only does it look stylish but it also adds the final touch to my bedroom It is easy to clean and it is a lot cosier than I predicted it would be, but just to make sure I added a vintage rug and a few more soft furnishings. My dog loved it too, although seeing him walk on it for the first time was a bit like watching Bambi on ice.
During my experience I have used a range of materials, when decorating my house. I have tailored my home renovation to suit the needs of each room and my spending plan, I hope this blog has helped you!!
