They believe that if the business is not conduced under their legitimate names, then they won't have to worry about any of the money they earn being reported to the IRS. It is important you don't fall for this faulty logic. Even if you do business under a different name the money will still be seen as income and you'll be held responsible for it. Further, the IRS will find youpeople that try to cheat the system usually get found out.
Whether or not you decide to utilize a pseudonym for the business you decide to do is absolutely your choice. For a lot of people it is much simpler to use a single name for their "real" lives and something different for their "online" lives. Others, however, assume that using only one name makes life less complicated because there are fewer things to remember.
