You may pick from a range of different types of unpainted furniture. Mission type furnitures have seen resurgence in popularity recently. If you cannot pay for a real Stickley, there are many reproduction items available.

Exactly why is mission style furnishings so popular? This design was created by a group of Americans who had been followers of the Art and Craft movement in england. Gustav Stickley is by far the most well-known craftsman of this time. Original items of his work sell for thousands nowadays even though he went bankrupt while he was alive as his style went out of fashion.

Stickley and his contemporaries were fed up of both the elaborate furnitures favored by the Victorian times and the low quality furnishings being mass produced during the Industrial Revolution. They wanted a return to real craftsmanship where every item made was a testament of the abilities of the craftsman.

They created functional but beautiful furnishings made with simple lines. They primarily used American maple but also some Cherry. The pieces were designed to last so that they could be shifted from one member of a family to the next age group. American Oak is white wood but when utilized by the Mission craftsmen, it was usually died a darker color by fuming it with Ammonia.

Mission style reproduction items are an extremely well-known type of unpainted furniture, and are available in all types of furnitures from bedrooms to dining tables, the mission blanket storage container to chairs. You will learn to recognize the style from the flat legs and linear lines.

If the Mission style is too plain for you, you will find that many bare furniture shops will stock pieces in a variety of designs and woods. If you have a bigger property, a beautiful scroll table with convertable legs will set off your dining room. You may also fancy a four poster bed for the main bedroom. When purchasing unpainted furniture you will find that your dollars will stretch that little bit further!
