4) Know what your usage is going to be. Some printers cannot handle large quantities of printing so if you're going to be printing lots of pages every day, then you need a more heavy duty colour printer than the usual home office type printer. Make sure you do not confuse the recommended regular monthly usage with the duty cycle.
5) What kind of stuff are you going to wish to accomplish? Every colour printer has different abilities. Some are able to scan and copy and fax in addition to just print - so you really need all of this extra stuff, or will you be happy with just printing out a couple of pages now and then? Do you need to have the ability to print on both sides of the page or just one? These types of extra functions often add to the price of the printer.
6) What is the budget. It is easy to get beguiled into purchasing a printer with things you are not likely to use, choose a budget and stick to it. This way you will be not as likely to end up spending more than you can afford.
Make sure you really know what you would like before you go searching for a colour printer. Should you go into a store and ask for advice, many salesmen will try and sell you the most costly machine that they can, instead go there with a variety of options in your mind that you've researched and found to be suitable.
