There's a very true popular saying that states that you should always learn from other people's blunders - as you usually won't live long enough to make all the errors yourself! I've had a dreadful experience with a particular cleaning company and I hope that this document can prevent other people from going through the same encounter.
It all happened about eighteen months ago when my husband and I found a beautiful little house to rent. The home was just the right size, situated in a very secure neighborhood and had a big enough garden for our puppy and a small heated pool area in addition to that. The only disadvantage was that the previous renters had a whole pack of canines as pets and these hairy pets were permanently in the house, so you can just imagine the state the carpets and floors were in!
But no worries, we would not let a terrible scent and a handful of dog hairs get us down so I grabbed the neighborhood classifieds, turned to the classifieds section and dialed the number of the first cleaning company listed. The woman on the other side of the line was quite helpful and we arranged to have 2 carpets and two floor surfaces cleaned the very next day.
The two guys arrived bright and early the next morning and I showed them which rooms and carpets to clean. I then realized that I had no cash on me and told them to continue with the job, I'll be back in a couple of minutes and I raced back to gas station to draw some money.
When I returned about 20 minutes later, I got a big surprise! The 2 guys from the cleaning company evidently decided that the entire home needed cleaning, and not just the tiles and carpets I advised them to clean. On top of that, I have asked for them to use as little water as possible, as I did not have time to wait for the carpets to dry for days as the moving van was booked for the following day. Low and behold, the whole house was drenched! Almost every carpet in every room of the house had been washed!
Naturally I was not very impressed with this situation as I explicitly showed them which carpets and tiles to clean and they just chose to pay no attention to my instructions. In addition to that all, the initial quote that I've received for 2 carpets and two floors were now null and void and I was served with an invoice for more than 4 times what I was quoted for!
I quickly phoned the cleaning company to object and was told that it was my responsibility to watch the cleaning staff and that I'd better make sure I pay the complete invoice!
The moral of the story is - don't use the very first cleaning company you find in the classified ads section. Just because the business's name starts with an A, does not necessarily mean you will receive A-class service!
