All enterprises/businesses need to plan their resources in such a way, as to achieve the maximum amount of productivity with the best return on the investments of the shareholders. The bigger the enterprise the more intricate the management can become, and for this reason an enterprise needs an Enterprise Resource Planning system (ERP). It goes without saying that a multinational, company which has profits which run into millions a year, the company would have a more intricate system than a small enterprise, yet the basics of setting up a good system is the same. With the benefit of helping the reader understand what ERP systems are and how they can help an enterprise, I have compiled this short article.
In this article we will be going over some of the basics of an ERP system. In order for decisions to be made properly within the organisation, key indicators need to be set up in order to measure the productivity of a business. In order for these indicators to be set up, accurate information from different departments within the organization and externally pertaining to the organization needs to sourced. The ERP system is an acronym for Enterprise Resource Planning, and the planning of the information is done via an automated system. ERP system software, is computer software which organises the information and then stores this information on a data base. The automation of information makes the realistic position of the business more transparent to all, and makes it easier to access and communicate information needed by management and shareholders.
A properly implemented ERP system, helps management integrate different sections of the company such as human resources, material resources and financial resources. The proper implementation of the system allows enterprises to save money, make quicker decisions and therefore save time, as well as much lower error margin, ensuring that the entire manufacturing process runs smoothly.
Yet in order for the system to work properly the correct ERP system needs to be implemented and everyone within the company needs to understand the importance of the system. Employees need to be retrained in the use of the ERP systems, and from the management side of things new work processes need to be developed. This also means that a complete, in depth business analysis needs to be undertaken.
When technology advances it is only in the benefit of the masses, and this includes companies, if people learn how to use the new technology to their advantage. And in the case of ERP system software, it is an advanced system and therefore people must be trained in its usage. The benefits of ERP system is great, and companies simply cannot afford to not move with the times, of faster and more efficient ways of automating company information, as well as company systems.
