3 Strategies for Internet Marketing Success

In the realm of internet marketing-if you're a total newbie or an old pro-you recognize that things can get overwhelming quickly! It seems online gurus have new and better ways to do video marketing, social media marketing, content marketing, SEO, pay per click, and ezine advertising each and every day. You click on one person's site, sign up for a free report, click on another link, grab another leader’s video course, and soon you’re drowning in 10,000 emails a day about the “best” online marketing strategies.

A lot of us, myself included, can get caught in information overload from time to time. As a result, you fail to move forward, take action, or implement anything because you keep looking and searching for something new!

It’s common to end up frozen by the variety of internet marketing tactics. There are so many ways to build your business on the internet and if you’re like me, you want to take action on all of them right away!

You may be wondering how to break through information overload and achieve success online. Successful online business owners use these three strategies as guidelines in all they do:

1. Simplify.

I think most people have a tendency to unnecessarily over-complicate things. If it seems too simple, we feel like there’s got to be a catch! However, success online comes from mastering the basics. There are only three "basics" in internet marketing:

- Generate leads and build your list.
- Get the people on your list to know, like, and trust you (e.g., develop a relationship).
- Promote to your list and close a sale.

Focus on those three things. Success online comes down to those basics. There is no need to make it any more complicated. Come back to this list when you feel overwhelmed or your online business isn't moving forward so you can discern where to focus—which is the next tip for internet marketing success.

2. Focus Intently.

It’s easy to get distracted online because there is a ridiculous amount of information on the Web. I notice this most often when I'm on Twitter; before I can even update my status there are 79 new tweets! The sheer volume of new information that comes at us at an increasingly faster rate is truly astounding. If you are able to overlook distractions and focus, you will be victorious online.

Take a look again at the basics from the strategy above. Where are you stuck or struggling? Focus on building a list first if you don't have anyone to talk to or market to. If you don't have the first basic tactic completed, don't spend time on or worry about the other two tactics. If you have a list, an autoresponder series going, and are connecting with people on Facebook and Twitter, but aren’t making any sales, focus there. What’s standing in the way? Is the offer being extended at the right time in the right way? Is your product or service something that your list wants and needs?

3. Report Results.
Are you accountable to someone else for the marketing numbers you're tracking? All successful business owners create this type of accountability. Which marketing strategies are working for you? How many people did you add to your list today? This week? From what source? Do you know the number of new people you're talking to on a daily and weekly basis? Which products are the most popular? What are you selling the most of each week? Month?

Knowing your numbers is essential! Everyone will track different numbers because different things matter depending on what business you're in. But, you need to spend some time figuring out the 5-10 numbers to track on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis that will move your business forward.

Don't forget to create some accountability. Whether it's a friend, a partner, a team member, or a spouse, find someone to hold you accountable and turn in your numbers to them each week. This makes it much easier to evaluate your business, so you can figure out when to simplify and refocus.
