The Christmas season always makes me feel like I am enveloped in not just the anticipation of the approaching days but also the delightful activities of all Christmases past. All around me most people are more positive, loved ones happier and the air crisp with energy. To convert the joyful emotion in our hearts thru colors and designs in our houses is like a compulsion we cannot halt. Instead of following to the letter decorating tips we've been practicing since we were young let's try out new ideas to help build new memories. Even though we could simply go to the mall, or purchase some quality home decor over the internet, we also have quite a bit we can do without spending any money.
Let us start with the front door. For as long as I can recall doors would always have wreaths during The holiday season. The only variation the wreaths would have from year to year is the combination of frills, pinecones and flora on it. An unique idea worth testing is not to use wreaths but garlands instead. Hang a garland at the top part of the door%u2019s threshold letting the ends to fall to the sides so it frames the door. It doesn't have to outline the complete door just the upper sections will do. Also trim the garland as if you would your Christmas tree and it'll seem like a portal to all things Christmas. On the other hand, because we used the garland to decorate the door its regular place at the mantle can now be made up in a different way. A good idea would be to place various candles on it. My husband and I have been collecting Yuletide themed candles for many years. We have candles in the shape of Santa, Pine trees along with plain candles in various Christmas colors, all these may be used. Group them together on the mantle based on your style and break the monotony with a vase of flowers. Remember to use candle colors that pop like red, cranberry and vibrant hues of green.
The tassles we were so keen on playing with when we were little are great for finishing touches in a room, you can suspend them at the side of drawers and desks or door knobs. These are immediately noticed amid the monotone color of the door or furniture. What I like about tassles is that it gives a little color and decadence to a room, not too much, just enough to make it interesting. Getting our houses into the mood of the season does not entail buying Christmas specific items to decorate around the house. An accessory such as a vase, jar or container that have colors associated with the holiday like gold, green or red can be used as decorations on center or side tables. Now that we are discussing table ware, during everyday family dinners this season you can still put a little Christmas by using accent colors to help to make the table look fun. Don't go overboard and buy green or red dinner plates just one or two items will do like the bowl that holds the main dish or table napkins. If you genuinely wish to go for broke, choose which Christmas recipes you'll be making on Christmas day, look at the colors involved, and pick table decor which is matching the colors used in the meal.
Wrapping presents is also a custom that my family still carry out together. This year don't hold back with the ribbons and wrapping paper. Make the package look like it is just bursting with Christmas cheer. Give not just the item inside the container but a smile created by the exuberance of the package.
