Once a year the UK Government requires all vehicles to be tested for their road worthiness, this test is run by the Ministry of Transport and is known as an MOT test. It is unfortunately the case that not all MOT tests are carried out properly. When a stranger comes into a very busy garage requesting an MOT test in a hurry, it all too easy for the stressed owner to get an apprentice to do the job.

Sometimes apprentices miss things but more often than not they can be over zealous and log the vehicle as needing more work than is actually necessary. If you have had problems and difficulties over an MOT test then perhaps you are going about looking after your vehicle the wrong way.

If you take care of the time and money that you have invested in your vehicle then it is highly likely that you will have it serviced by a local garage or mechanic in between MOT tests - if you don't do this then not only are you being irresponsible with your property, you could be looking at some expensive work when the MOT tester deems your vehicle as not road worthy. Most mechanics and garages do a good job and will not tell you that your vehicle needs work that is unnecessary. If you have not looked after your vehicle however, you are not really in a position to question the findings of the test.

The fact is that if you get your vehicle serviced in between MOT tests, then it is less likely to need a lot of work to make it road worthy come MOT time. The best vehicle servicing and MOT tests are usually the result of a good relationship with your local mechanic or garage. Taking your vehicle for its annual MOT test, which is a legal requirement in the UK, to the same garage or mechanic that services your vehicle, is good vehicle sense.

Small businesses appreciate it when a customer turns up with repeat business; not only does it give them some more money, it validates the work that they have done previously. People like to be valued and when you show that you value the service you have received from a business, then you are more likely to get good service and customer care in the future.

When it comes to keeping your vehicle road worthy and safe then a good garage or mechanic is a godsend. When you get your MOT test done by the same mechanic who services your vehicle, they will be familiar with you and with your vehicle, which means that you will get a better job done. In the world of business, how you treat people is important and it can mean the difference between poor and expensive service, and a great job and good value.

If you don't want to spend a lot of money once a year having major faults addressed in your vehicle, then you should get it serviced on a regular basis. Use the same garage or mechanic for your MOT as you do for your services and it should sail through the test for a good number of years to come.
