As its name indicates, a pasta maker machine is a kitchen device that helps you knead and shape pasta dough into several varieties of fresh pasta. It is available in both manual and electric models. Manual pasta makers are those that use a hand crank and generally just take the place of a rolling pin and pasta cutter. That fact that it does not require electricity means that you can use it almost anywhere. Electric pasta makers, on the other hand, effectively automate more of the work involved in pasta-making. In fact, there are models that require you only to put the necessary ingredients into the machine without any prior mixing. The machine itself does all the mixing, kneading, and cutting for you. Naturally, electric models carry a much higher price than manual machines.
If you decide to buy a manual pasta maker then follow these detailed instructions in using it. First, you will have to prepare the pasta dough ingredients, which consists of 2 eggs, 1 ¼ cups of flour, and a pinch of salt. Put the flour on the cooking surface, create a pit in the middle, break the eggs then pour them into the pit along with the salt. Mix the salt and eggs with a fork, taking care not to spill it out of the flour pit. It has to combine with the flour gradually until dough is formed.
Knead the dough, adding a little flour if it is too sticky. When the dough softens, flatten it and then cut into equal parts. Flatten these parts as well. Set up the pasta maker machine, put one sheet in it and then turn the crank. Take the sheet as it comes out of the machine and then repeat the process a couple more times. Adjust the machine’s setting to make the sheet thinner and then put it through the same process until the desired thickness is achieved.
Attach the required cutting blades for the type of pasta that you want to make then put the sheet through the cutting side of the machine. You may collect the cut pasta with one hand while turning the crank with the other, or you may ask the help of another person in collecting the pasta. Let the pasta dry for 10-15 minutes before cooking. Before long, you will be ready to serve a pasta dish for four.
Naturally, you will also need to learn how to clean your pasta maker. Cleaning a pasta maker is an easy process, but it does require a bit of patience. First, you need to remove large chunks of pasta from your machine and then leave the machine on your kitchen counter to dry. Once the remaining bits of dough have completely dried, use a wooden dowel to remove them from the machine. For crevices that are difficult to reach with a wooden dowel, you may use a small brush. As soon as you get all dough bits off the machine, you may wash it quickly with warm water and then allow it to dry. Remember not to soak the pasta maker machine, as it contains metal parts that have a tendency to rust.
