Since the release of the first Motorola Droid over two years, ago, it has been a rousing success. And though the original Motorola Droid is a more-than-capable phone even in 2010, its success has merited a successor. The Motorola Droid 2 has built on the original Droid's accessories and has found a soft spot among mass texters and those new to Android devices.

Launched to directly compete with Apple's extremely successful iPhone smart phone, the Motorola Droid has been the highly-successful, keyboard-wielding smart phone of choice on Verizon since its launch over two years ago. The Motorola Droid 2 has recently become the successor of the original Droid. This follow-up model by Motorola also comes with a keyboard, which puts it into a special category of smart phone that boldly bucks the touch screen trend. And batteries are made to last long -- an entire day long, in fact.

Despite their widespread use and trendiness, it may surprise you that touch-sensitive are not all that popular among Android users. In a recent survey, a majority of Android users have said they'd prefer a physical keyboard over a touch screen keyboard. For avid text messaging users, the original Motorola Droid was the go-to Android device on Verizon; Motorola has decided to build on this success by bundling the follow-up Droid 2 with a similar keyboard. But this new keyboard will surprise a lot of text messaging fanatics: it is far superior to its predecessor and makes texting even easier. The buttons are easier to press and have a more durable feel, resulting in quicker text messaging and more accurate words in the messages that are quickly hammered out to friends and family members.

First-time smart phone users will love the Motorola Droid 2 as well. For many people, the hardest part about switching form a so-called "feature" phone to a smart phone is learning to use a touch screen. With the Motorola Droid 2's improved keyboard, this hurdle is cleared before it is even encountered. Users also get a multi-directional navigation key, just like those found on the standard flip-phones of years past. And accessories make it easy to access features like GPS and the Android car dock without so much as a button-press.

The holster is a thing of the past, with a special new R2-D2 model that skins the phone into a Star Wars robot ready to battle through the day, from application to application, text message to text message, email to email. It is the first such Droid phone for Star Wars fanatics, and makes the perfect addition to any Star Wars geek's collection of memorabilia and merchandise.
