When on board the Sea Cloud travelling miles away from land of your birth you may possibly be forgiven for forgetting that you are not in one of the most fabulous hotels.
The Sea Cloud is a high end ship with a difference, it was appointed by its primary owner, Lady Marjorie Post, to truly be a home away from home on the ocean. Almost never in the world of vacation cruises can one truly impressive experience the emotion of absolute comfort and impressive as is felt on the Sea Cloud. With a big cabin complete with a fireplace and walk in wardrobe you are right at home and retain all the comforts of home. This room looks naught like a room on a liner, even the most notable prominent stateroom on a superior liner has the feeling that it is designed for the seven seas. The only feature which gives this rooms place away once the door is closed is the gentle roll of the ocean and the portholes instead of windows. The same is true of the second owner?s impressive cabin, ornamented this occasion in reds and cream, with dark wooden panelling and atmospheric light. It is no wonder when you take into account the unique history of this attractive vessel.
Marjorie Post, partner of Wall Street legend E.F. Hutton, and herself a winning business woman, spent 2 years ensuring that the Sea Cloud was integral out exactly to her specs. After her marriage broke up, Lady Post refused to let go of her beloved vessel, and demanded that her husband sign over inclusive ownership, he did and Lady Post began to spend more and more time on the Sea going to Europe and the Soviet Union, hosting the Crowned Heads of Europe onboard. The only factor that could part her from her Sea Cloud, it turned out, was patriotism. Subsequent to the Japanese Assail on Pearl Harbour the US Navy was in severe disarray and Lady Post in an action of self-sacrifice which stunned all who recognized how much she cherished Sea Cloud, signed the commission of the liner over to the US Navy to facilitate with the war effort.
Lady Post would regain Sea Cloud as soon as the war complete, but due to rationing of equipment the refitting took five years, but allowed the rigging to be carefully personalized. However, with the adjustments the hostilities had wrought on the cost of living and with the rising expenditure of labour the liner was too much for the ageing Lady Post and she ultimately sold it in 1950.
The romantic connections of this boat were set aside closely the same through all these years, it is still appointed as Lady Post specified, and pompously bears its stripes from the US Navy telling its service to the country. And luckily for us it has been operated as one of the very best fantastic cruise ships from the time.
The company has commissioned and managed other boats with the same level of luxurious and the values instilled in Sea Cloud as a home away from home and these vessels make up the most equisite cruise ships on the ocean.
