America has been dependant on oil since well before the days of the internal combustion engine. Early Americans used oil as a lubricant for wagon wheels, mixed oil with sand to pave roads, and extracted a liquid called kerosene from oil for fuel used in lanterns. Amazingly enough gasoline, which is the most well know fuel extracted from oil these days, was actually a byproduct of the kerosene extraction process. Gasoline was considered a waste product in early America! Many marvel at the fact that a society of Americans who once considered gasoline to be a nuisance and waste would someday come to embrace it to the point of dependency.
A new fuel source has recently emerged that may save America's future from dependence on foreign oil. This alternative fuel source is natural gas and has been found to be in huge abundance right here in America! It is estimated that the amount of natural gas in America is the equivalent of twice the amount of oil in Saudi Arabia. Langley Energy, in Dallas Texas, has known about natural gas as an alternative fuel source for many years. Langley Energy has been harvesting Natural Gas through a new process called hydrofracking. The majority of the natural gas supply mentioned is embedded inside rock known as shale. It has not been possible to extract natural gas from inside shale until a recent method discovered of combining hydraulic fracturing, or "hydrofracking", and horizontal drilling.
Hydrofracking is a process in which millions of gallons of water are is combined with chemicals called fracking fluid and used to break apart the shale. By combining hydrofracking with horizontal drilling we are now able to extract vast pockets of natural gas that were previously untouchable.
With the ability to harvest the abundant pockets of natural gas in America the future is looking very good!
