The present Multiport Electronically Controlled Fuel Injection System is made up of sensors which determine the actual engine requirements, the ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM) which controls the fuel injection system dependent on signals from these types of electrical feedback sensors, and electrical actuators which function under the control of the Electronic Control Unit (ECU).

The Powertrain Control Module carries out activities such as fuel injection control, idle air control, and spark ignition control.

In addition, the Powertrain Control Module is equipped along with various analysis test modes which usually streamline trouble shooting in the event that a new check engine light develops.

The two predominant maps that anyone require to control or correct is simply the timing along with fuel map

spark ignition timing management

The ignition igniter module located inside the ignition main circuit turns ON and OFF in order to control the actual primary current rate to the ignition coil. This approach manages the spark timing in order to deliver the most effective ignition timing with regard to the engine performing conditions. The ignition timing is decided on through the PCM from engine speed, air intake, engine coolant temperature (ECT), as well as manifold pressure.

fuel injector solenoid management

The actual fuel injector open periods and as well as injection timing are managed so that the optimum A/F (air to fuel ration) mixture is delivered to the engine which will correspond to the continually-changing engine operating variables. A fuel injector is strategically mounted near the intake port of each cylinder. Gasoline is delivered while under pressure (around 55 psi) coming from the petrol tank to the actual fuel injectors through the fuel pump, with the pressure being controlled by the fuel pressure regulater at around 55 psi. The regulated petrol is distributed evenly to each of the injectors. Sequential fuel injection is usually distributed once for each cylinder for every two rotations of the engine. On a four cylindr engine the firing order will be 1-3-4-2. Each cylinder will have a dedicated fuel injector. This is whats called sequential injection. The Engine Control Module provides a richer air/fuel mixture by carrying out "open-loop" control when the engine is cold or operating under high load conditions in order to maintain engine performance. In addition, when the engine is under normal operating temperature after warming-up, the ECM (Engine Computer) controls the A/F (air to fuel ration) mixture by using the heated Lambda sensor signal to execute "closed-loop" control. The closed-loop management accomplishes the Stoichiometric air/fuel mixture ratio where the catalytic converter can perform the highest level cleansing efficiency.

While using Unichip (Q version) you will have complete control over these variables to make modifications to the timing and fuel tables. The Unichip Piggyback has 24 RPM sites between 100 RPM and 24000 RPM and 13 load sites between closed throttle full throttle position. This equates to 312 available tuning sites for each map. In turn the Unichip Q will interpolate in between each speed and load site sixteen times which provides a very high resolution densed map.

UniQ is Unichips most up-to-date software program for tuning engine ECU's. This software is a significant shift from old style DOS system that was in operation for over a decade. Take the Unichip Q-plus Tuning software for a test drive and see for youself.
