In a recent interview with Mike Dillard,, Mike said that he used to be afraid of the phone.. Can you image the founder of Attraction Marketing, Mike Dillard actually being afraid to talk people on the phone. Well I guess in Mike's earlier days he had a conflict going on within him and what many network marketers have to deal with when they first get started. He had to overcome the conflict between what he had dreamed and what it was going to take to get there. Many see network marketing as this excellent way to get out of Corporate America and the dead end job that you might be in right now, but you may not yet have the drive or have found a place to get the right training to actually find the success that you know is just waiting for you. Like you Mike had the desire of being an entrepreneur and having his independence, but because he was engaged in more procrastination than the actions needed to create the success he dreamed of. As Mike began to realize this, he he knew something had to change. Mike did eventually do something about his fears and his procrastination. It did take him four years but how he is enjoying being a successful entrepreneur and a person who continues to show people how to to find success in network marketing.
So many people see Mike Dillard as this visionary man who has has found success both in network marketing and on the internet but in order for Mike to get over his fear the phone he had to do something about it. What he did was he actually took on a corporate job many years ago where he would be in the position to call 300 people per day. Mike was cured pretty quick of his fear of talking to people on the phone. This was a turning point for Mike for Mike but he soon realized that he'd have to do the same thing if he wanted to really live the dream.
Mike acknowledged that if you want to be successful you have to keep on growing. He had the foresight to realize that Network Marketing was about marketing and people so he studied these subjects. He studied all the marketing greats and realized he needed to talk to people who were already looking for what he had. This lead him to starting to called other network marketers from genealogy list, knowing that network marketers were his target market. In his attempt to do this and after calling about 300 plus network marketers he acknowledged that he was not going to call genealogy list for the rest of his life. So he was faced with another dilemma and wondered - how can I get people to call me? If I can stop chasing people and get them to call me, at least 5 to 10 calling me everyday
Mike thought the internet may be the answer. He began to learn about capture pages and writing good ad copy. He also realized that he had to offering value to others if he wanted to reach his goal of attracting 5 to 10 prospects per day. This was the beginning of Mike's success with Magnetic Sponsoring. As he applied these techniques he built a system that worked for him and began to put it into a book. This book was mostly for the use of his team in his primary network marketing company but we all know the success that came out at what is now known as Attraction Marketing
This was a big revelation for Mike and as his down-line began to grow he started to understand the product doesn't matter, but instead it's really all about you and your posture. People are looking to join you because they perceive value from you and that you have the knowledge and skills to teach them something which will enable them to achieve the same success. Mike talks about posture and not giving your power away. He talks about when calling on the phone you should have the right posture and have the attitude of a champion, instead of being needy to have someone join you in your business. Mike stresses that you have to get on the phone if you want to be successful in network marketing. Mike continued to say that even though we may have all the skills and are proficient at the tools of the internet with the autoresponders, tracking, article submitters, and PPC, this is still a people business and we still have to pick up the phone and call them. Period! It's about learning the skill of marketing and talking to people. You have to become a leader and learn all you need to learn to be a success.
It's important to find and learn from a leader until you can step into the role of the leader. In today's economy with people losing their jobs and so many are looking for alternative ways to supplement their incomes, you as a network marketer has the greatest opportunity ever to capitalize on growing huge downlines. This is why if you want to be successful in network marketing you have to step into the role of a leader so people will start following you. As people begin to follow you, you will have to be willing to get on the phone and call them. Mike Dillard has definitely taught us so much over the past 4 years but there are 3 main things to learn in network marketing - learning how to market, you must be a leader or be willing to learn this skill, and getting on the phone and talking to people. It's just a matter of choosing to become bigger. Mike Dillard had the attitude to learn all he could to be a success and you can do the same. Realize that you have to do whatever it takes. Learn the skills, become that leader and have people chasing you to join your business and find the success in network marketing that you deserve.
