On any given day, I’ll usually get a handful of calls from people who are interested in building their business online. And, one of the questions I usually get asked is: Do I have to really build a list? In most cases, people feel that list building isn’t that big of a deal or that it’s just another expense. In this short article, I will give you three reasons why list building will be in your best interest.
Obviously, you have to setup your sales funnel first, and then focus on driving traffic to your funnel. However, for the purpose of this article, let us hone in on why list building is important. Here's three compelling reasons why you need to focus on list building:
1. To automate most of the follow up process – When you are driving traffic to your sales funnel, your visitors will not typically join or buy from you on the very first exposure.Even if they’re interested, it usually takes 6-8 exposures until they feel comfortable enough to move forward. Well, if you’re getting a fair amount of traffic that are becoming leads, it will be very difficult try to follow up with every single lead by phone, much less trying to follow up with each one every couple of days to try to get them to take another look at what you’re offering. And, even if you did manage to do that, you will not have any time to work on other areas of growing your business. And let's not forget your family life.By building your own email list, and utilizing a good autoresponder, you same an enormous amount of time.
2. To market relevant information products, software and tools – The reality is not every website visitor you get will be interested in your business.In fact, 80-90% of your visitors, who even convert to leads, will not be interested. So should you just ignore that large group of people? No, you should monetize the people who have no interest in what your business is by marketing relevant products to them that they can use for their business. If you don’t build your own list, how can you do this? You can’t and you’ll be leaving hundreds, or even thousands, of dollars a month on the table.
3. To build an asset that you own and can take with you – While you obviously don't want anything negative to happen in your company, you should "hope for the best, and plan for the worst". What is changes occur in your company that you do not agree with or that negatively affects you and your team?What if something occurs that causes your company to spiral downwards? Of course, you don’t want anything to happen, but shouldn’t you be prepared if something does? By focusing on list building, you can build a wall of security if, God forbid, something occurs and you have to run with another company.
Here is a simplified example to show you what I mean: Let’s say, over the next 3 years, you build a list of 15,000 people. Now, let's imagine that something happens that makes you pursue another network marketing opportunity.Without skipping a beat, you can blast an email to your list to invite people to a webinar to launch your new business.If only 20% of your list, which is 3,000 people, actually read your email and only 10% of them, which is 300 people, actually get on the webinar.Assuming you have an attractive opportunity, you’ll probably get 20%, which is 60 people, to sign up. Obvisouly, you can do better or worse, but with just one click of your mouse, you can potentially personally sponsor 60 people, and your business is off to the races. I know, pretty cool... This is the potential of building your business online.
In summary, if you are interested in building your network marketing business on the internet, I recommend you build your list from day 1. It is a smart business move, and you will be glad you did.
