With the economy spiralling downwards, more and more people are looking into multilevel marketing as a vehicle to provide financial relief. And, for good reason. The network marketing industry is one of a few industries that actually experiences momentum and growth during a down economy. Obviously, if you’re looking to break into the industry, it’s vital that you find a company that you can get excited about and a product that you can get passionate about. After that, you’ll have to find a good leader, get to work and start building your organization. In this simple article, I'll go into one of the biggest mistakes that 97% of network marketers make and how you can avoid it.
Mistake - The mistake that the vast majority of network marketers make is that they pitch their business and try to shove it in everyone's face. They try to brag about their company’s corporate team, and how much documentation they have. They try to bombard you with information about how unique their product and service is, and how their product is the best thing since sliced bread. The most common thing they talk about is how good their compensation plan is, and how no other company has a pay plan like theirs. Yada, yada, yada! The reality is nobody really cares about that and pitching your business in this manner will give you horrible results. Remember, assuming your targeting existing multilevel marketers (which you should because they are your target market), they ALREADY have a business that they’re trying to build. They don’t need another one, when they’re probably struggling with the one they have. Also, spamming people and posting random links all over the internet, will not only yield you minimal results, but chances are, you’re probably getting the double whammy of losing your credibility at the same time. Always keep in mind that people don’t join companies, products and compensation plans... They join people! So understand that when you’re pitching what’s in your company’s products, or going into how your service does what it does, you’re actually talking about stuff that won’t help you sponsor the person you’re talking to.
Solution - What you should be doing is marketing your value and your system. This will take you a lot further than attempting to pitch your products and pay plan. People are searching for leaders who can provide genuine value and guidance. This is why it’s vital that you develop your mindset and skillset, and always work on adding new skills to your toolbelt. They’re also attracted to leaders who can provide them with a real, do-able system that they can utilizeto build their network marketing business and make money. For example, if most marketers struggle with not having enough prospects and not having enough money, wouldn’t it make sense to talk about solutions and systems that will address those two problems? By marketing you, your system and solutions to their challenges, you’ll find that you’ll be able to magnetically attract leads and prospects to you effortlessly.
Now, you might be wondering, “OK, market solutions to people... I get it. But, when do I bring up my business opportunity? After all, that’s ultimately what I’m trying to do.” The answer is on the back-end, only after you’ve provided value, built a relationship and probably helped them solve one or more of their business problems. Remember what I mentioned earlier, people join people, not companies. I’d like to add that people join people they know, like and trust. So knowing that people join people and join people they like and trust, marketing your opportunity on the back-end after you’ve provided value and helped them, makes perfect sense. Trust me, bringing up your business after you’ve established a relationship is 100 times more effective than shoving your business down their throat. I mean think about it, would you ask someone to marry you on the first date, or worse yet, if you weren’t even on a date and just randomly ran up to them on the street? Of course not... So, why would you expect someone to join you when you have absolutely no relationship with them or haven’t provided them with value and help?
This is a very different tactic than what you’ve probably been taught, but understand that this is how the top earners effectively market and build their businesses. If you can make the adjustment in your mindset and started offering solutions instead of pitching your business, you’ll start to generate leads and sponsor people, with very little effort. Of course, you can keep spamming all of your contacts on Facebook until they all delete you.
